Episode 08: Jessica Carney

In this episode of Spill It, Tiffanie speaks with event specialist and nonfiction writer Jessica Carney about her life and career trajectory. The first Iowanian on the pod, Jessica shares what it was like growing up in Iowa and how her parent's decision to pay for her instate tuition led to her attending The University of Iowa and how her time there would spark her interest in event planning and set her off on her career. Jessica’s perspectives of working both part-time and full-time throughout her career and transparency of how her husband’s engineering career allowed hr to take certain risks in her career sheds a light on how when pivoting to full-time freelance writing she was able to do so.

As promised, we've rounded up the resources mentioned in the episode including Jessica's iconic essay about her political groupie mom aptly titled, My Mom is a Political Groupie. For all things writing advice check out The Writers' Co-op podcast and Sonia's newsletter.
